John 4:23-24 - ESV Worship? Here is a note about worship from Worship Pastor Philip Burton: What drives me as a worshipper? The simplest answer I can give is that worship is what we were created to do. But it’s so much more than that. Worship is the catalyst between God and His people. In a matter of moments God who is always near can seem even closer when we worship Him. And, when God draws near, His presence follows. And when His presence comes, His healing comes, His restoration comes, His peace comes, His deliverance comes, His freedom comes, His living water comes, and most importantly His love comes. Its not that these things are beyond our reach but there is something about worship that makes these amazing things of God seem so real they are practically tangible. Worship also serves as a battleground for God’s people. There’s nothing more incredible than going into battle as God’s worshipper. Worship drives the enemy away, what other reason would you need to worship? Not really any other reason, and yet there are so many reasons I worship. I worship because God is God. Each and every attribute of God from His mercy to His grace to His love to His omniscience and even to His perfect wrath drives me to worship the God who created the heavens. I also worship because of what God has done for me. First and foremost He rescued me from an eternity of separation from Him. But even beyond that God has blessed me beyond anything I can imagine. There are so many huge things God has done for me and countless little things of which I am sure I couldn’t even know them all. My drive as a lead worshipper is to see God’s people worship Him beyond just singing songs. There is so much more God wants His people to experience in worship. My heart is to pull people and stretch them further into the presence of God. To get to the place in worship where we think we have found Him and then go further. In my experience there is nothing greater on this Earth than the presence of God. That is why I am devoting my life to it. I want people to experience God in real way: a way that changes them, a way that can convict, a way that can love, a way that can bring freedom and a way that can ignite passion within people to share who God is with everyone around them. So, what drives me as a worshipper? Simple. I was created for this. It’s in my veins, it’s in my head, and it’s in my heart. And so I’ll spend my life searching for the heart of God and never feel like I’ve wasted a day. |
